GATHERING IN MOTION

ONE ROOT. TWO VOICES.

ONE STAGE.

Gathering in Motion is a long-term arts project initiated by the Canada Institute of Dance and Cultural Exchange (CIDCE). Bringing Chinese dance and traditional Chinese instrumental music into a shared creative process, it supports Canada-based dancers, musicians and fellow artists, while giving young talent opportunities to create, rehearse and perform.

In 2027, the project will present the first version of an approximately 30-minute work, conceived as a poem in dance and music. Over the following three years or so, the team plans to develop the work through annual rehearsals, performances and revisions, gradually building a consistent ensemble. As the work matures, CIDCE will pursue suitable international festival and performance exchange opportunities.

Gathering in Motion seeks to give Chinese dance and music room to grow within Canada’s cultural life. Through connections with artists, schools, families and local communities, it brings people of different backgrounds and generations together to share artistic experiences, build understanding and strengthen a sense of belonging. The project also plans to organize activities in support of SickKids, inviting artists and audiences to contribute to children’s health and family well-being.
