Timeline & Artistic Recognition

I. Timeline

01|September 19 – December 12, 2026

Online Registration, Video Submission & Professional Adjudication

Schools and institutions complete the registration and video submission.

Works meeting the eligibility requirements enter the anonymous professional adjudication process, where they are independently scored by 2–3 professional adjudicators, each providing recorded jury feedback.

The adjudication results will form the official selection score for the work and serve as the primary professional basis for determining artistic recognition.

02|Following Adjudication in 2026

Adjudication Results and Live Showcase Invitations

CIDCE confirms and announces the official adjudication results and formal artistic recognitions for this season.

Works that achieve artistic recognition enter the curatorial selection pool for the live showcase. Based on the adjudication results, CIDCE will separately determine and issue formal live invitations, taking into consideration the professional quality of the works and actual production conditions.

Upon completing participation confirmation and live event registration within the specified timeframe, the invited works will officially enter this season's Outstanding Works Showcase.

03|Before the 2027 Live Event

Collaborative Artistic Development & Rehearsal

Among the works confirmed for the Outstanding Works Showcase, CIDCE will conduct a separate artistic selection to invite certain works into further collaborative development and rehearsal with Chinese instrumental musicians.

Through listening, response, rehearsal, reworking, and refinement, dancers and musicians explore new relationships between movement and sound, preparing and developing for the collaborative artistic presentation during the evening's Gathering in Motion Premiere.

This artistic selection and the adjudication process operate according to distinct professional objectives, with the former focusing specifically on the work's potential for further collaborative development.

04|2027 Live Event Day

Showcase · Recognition · Collaborative Artistic Presentation

The Gathering in Motion 2027 live event unfolds in two principal parts: daytime and evening.

During the day, the Outstanding Works Showcase presents recognized works that have been formally invited and confirmed for live participation.

The evening segment hosts the Gathering in Motion Premiere, comprising the recognition ceremony and the collaborative artistic presentation. This brings together the professional recognition from the adjudication and the stage outcomes forged through collaborative artistic development into a single evening event.

The confirmed date, Showcase sessions, venue, and event-day schedule will be announced once finalized.

Artistic recognition, live showcase invitations, and collaborative artistic development are interconnected, yet each proceeds according to its own professional objectives and operational procedures.

II. Professional Recognition System

01|Recognition Concept

CIDCE hopes to see and affirm the truly outstanding professional and artistic value of each artistic practice through professional recognition.

We care about the final presented results, but we also hope to answer a deeper and more meaningful question through professional adjudication: What is the most worthy aspect of this practice to be seen and affirmed?

Therefore, different categories of recognition respond to the outstanding performance already established in various professional dimensions, ensuring that each affirmation clearly illustrates the artistic achievements and professional strengths realized.

CIDCE's artistic recognition is rooted in professional standards.

Each recognition emphasizes the clearly formed and fully realized artistic qualities and professional outcomes. Scoring results provide a vital basis for professional judgment.

Adjudicators will combine the overall presentation with the corresponding standards to determine whether a clear, complete, and convincing artistic outcome has been formed.

Through such a system, CIDCE hopes that every affirmation carries clear professional meaning—not only recording what the participants obtained, but also helping them understand what they truly achieved and where they excelled.

Professional recognition confirms the artistic outcomes demonstrated during the curatorial selection process; the subsequent live showcase and artistic development will create further presentation, collaboration, and development opportunities for selected outcomes based on their respective goals and selection criteria.

02|Recognition Objects and Categories

CIDCE's professional recognition identifies and affirms the established artistic outcomes from various dimensions.

Solo, duet, trio, and group dances are merely presentation formats; CIDCE's recognition objects are clearly divided into the following four categories:

  • School and Teaching Team: Affirming their contributions in teaching, rehearsal guidance, and artistic support.

  • Work: Affirming its value in choreography, structure, artistic conception, and integrity.

  • Group Dance Ensemble: Affirming their achievements in collective coordination and overall artistic presentation.

  • Performers: Affirming the dancers' own technique, stylistic understanding, and artistic expression.

Ⅲ. Specific Professional Recognitions

1|Rhythm and Style Expression Recognition

Granted to presentations that excel in dance characteristics, physical rhythm, movement texture, rhythmic organization, and stylistic integrity.

This recognition focuses on the understanding and embodiment of one's own dance language, and how body, rhythm, texture, and style collectively form a clear and convincing overall expression.

2|Artistic Expression Recognition

Granted to presentations that excel in overall artistic expression.

This recognition focuses on how a clear, complete, and convincing artistic expression is formed through the body, performance state, rhythm, space, and overall treatment, while respecting the narrative method and artistic language of the specific piece.

3|Musical Understanding and Expression Recognition

Granted to presentations that excel in musical understanding and the treatment of the relationship between movement and music.

This recognition focuses on the understanding of rhythm, phrasing, layering, dynamics, and breath, as well as how dancers make conscious and judged responses to these musical relationships through their bodies and movements.

4|Technical Execution and Physical Control Recognition

Granted to presentations that excel in physical control, movement quality, technical execution, and technical application.

This recognition focuses on the accuracy, stability, control, and execution quality of techniques, while emphasizing how technical choices and applications serve the dance characteristics, artistic expression, and overall completion.

5|Original Choreography Recognition

Applicable to original repertoire.

Granted to original works that excel in choreographic conception, movement development, structural organization, spatial application, and overall formation.

This recognition focuses on whether the choreographic choices establish a clear and complete artistic logic, and how movement, structure, and spatial relationships collectively drive the work's own expression.

6|Group Performance Recognition

Applicable to group dances.

Granted to group ensembles that excel in interpersonal relationships, spatial organization, collective coordination, and overall stage presentation.

This recognition focuses on how dancers establish relationships, how the ensemble organizes space, flow, and shared rhythms, and how they collectively form a cohesive and complete stage structure.

Ⅳ. Jury's Recognition of Excellence

The Jury's Recognition of Excellence is used to affirm presentations that stand out in their overall artistic completion.

Adjudicators will judge whether the presentation has achieved its expression in a clear, complete, and convincing manner, taking into consideration the age group, presentation format, and its own artistic language.

For Chinese dance, convincing rhythmic and stylistic integrity is a crucial foundation for overall artistic completion to be established.

This recognition focuses on the completion formed by the piece as an artistic whole, determined by the adjudicators' professional judgment after comprehensively viewing the work, and is established independently of any single scoring category.

If assessed by 3 adjudicators, it requires recognition from at least 2; if by 2 adjudicators, it requires mutual recognition from both.

Recognition Attribution and Granting Principles

Professional recognitions are granted based on clear professional standards and attribution logic.

The same recognition may be granted to one or multiple objects that fully embody the corresponding standards; if no object fully meets the standard in a given season, the recognition may remain vacant.

In principle, each presentation can receive a maximum of two Specific Professional Recognitions.

The Jury's Recognition of Excellence is excluded from this principled limit.

When a presentation forms distinct specific strengths and meets the corresponding standards for overall artistic completion, it can concurrently receive a Specific Professional Recognition and the Jury's Recognition of Excellence.

Ⅴ. Professional Recognition Attribution and Live Presentation Adjustments

  • Based on the video of Work A submitted by the dancer, the recognition for Work A remains exclusively attributed and belongs to Work A.

  • Professional recognition for the dancer explicitly corresponds to and belongs to the dancer themselves.

  • If a dancer who has received professional recognition is invited to participate in the subsequent live showcase and wishes to switch to Work B on site, their personal professional recognition record will remain unaffected; however, CIDCE must separately confirm the readiness and presentation conditions of the new piece (Work B) to ensure it meets the professional standards for theater presentation.

Recognition Records and Live Presentation

Formal Professional Recognition

Every outcome of the artistic selection should be clearly and formally documented.

All officially participating works will receive a corresponding digital certificate of participation; works that achieve artistic recognition will receive a formal digital certificate of recognition, documenting the professional recognition achieved in this season's program.

Professional recognition is established upon the announcement of official results and remains valid as a formal professional record of the work in this program.

Professional Recognition and Live Presentation

Selected recognized works will further receive a formal invitation to the Outstanding Works Showcase.

Works that accept the invitation and complete the live presentation will receive a corresponding physical recognition piece, documenting the experience of completing a formal stage presentation after achieving professional recognition.

The physical recognition piece can simultaneously reflect:

The professional recognition already achieved by the work in this program
and
the record of the work's completed live presentation

Thus, the physical recognition piece connects two vital components of the work's journey in this program:

Ⅵ. Professional Recognition Formal Stage Presentation

Professional recognition and the live presentation record each serve distinct functions, jointly documenting the professional experience the work has completed within the program.

Works, Performers & Professional Credit

In principle, each work corresponds to one physical recognition piece. If a single work receives multiple professional recognitions, they may be documented on the same physical piece. For group dances, the professional recognition belongs to the work and the participating ensemble as a whole.

The relevant digital records for participating dancers will reflect their status as participants in the recognized work, while maintaining the integrity of the group recognition as a collective professional achievement.

The professional contributions of teachers, choreographers, and participating institutions will also be reflected through corresponding formal professional credits and program records.

Physical recognition pieces are provided in conjunction with official live participation in the Outstanding Works Showcase, recorded as part of the work's live experience, and are not available for separate purchase.
